Today was scheduled to be a sleep-in day because we didn’t get to bed until 3:30 AM Salt Lake City time! We slept until 9 AM and walked to McDonald’s for breakfast. Everyone spent a leisurely morning at Joyce & Ron’s house while I finished posting my grades for spring semester, and we did several loads of laundry. In the afternoon, we drove to the airport to rent a minivan to transport our bikes for tomorrow, and then we drove up to Big Cottonwood Canyon. There was still some snow on the slopes at the ski resorts, and we decided to take a short hike at the Solitude Nordic Center where Ed and I attempted to learn how to cross-country ski a few years ago. The trail circled a small lake and was still snow packed in a few spots. What a beautiful place – the snow-capped mountains made a perfect backdrop for our hike!
On our drive back down Big Cottonwood Canyon, we stopped at the Silver Fork Lodge & Restaurant and decided that the weather was warm enough to eat dinner on their back deck. After soaking in the scenery and gorging on their delicious food, I was ready for a nap. I snoozed a little during our drive back down the canyon to Salt Lake City. Joyce & Ron did some yard work while I worked on the blog and Ed watched the finale of American Idol. We went to bed early in preparation for our bike ride on the Historic Union Pacific Trail the next day.
