Our last day started with a two mile ride further down the trail and then turning around at the bluff in the picture to go the same two miles back to McKittrick. Martha consented to this spur in order to satisfy my desire to log in a full 200 miles. Then back over the Missouri to Hermann, the little German town where the Mai Fest was underway, the most scenic town on our trip. Bill, at his bike shop, took our bikes to prepare them for FedEx shipping and we walked around town a bit. Lots of little craft booths and a bratwurst sandwich at an interesting store helped keep the spirit of the festival. Then on to Amtrak to get to St. Louis and the airport for our flight home. Riding the train was great fun and a lot easier than pedaling, but nothing could replace our healthy adventure. I’m so glad we did it and now look forward to the next Hall of Fame rail to trail with Martha.
